You could not make this up could you:

Someone locally bought a Hotpoint FridgeFreezer. Still under guarantee and he reported a fault. Many months later and it is still not working. 4th engineer was eventually sent and this is what the post about it says:

Looks like a win for us against Hotpoint after an engineer condemned the fridge freezer as an unsalvageable fire risk.

The report reached them today so await their cringeworthy apologies and a replacement unit.

So avoid Hotpoint for anything is my advice and just hope P is correct and he and S soon get a working fridge freezer.

We've all heard the "my granddad smoked 60 a day and lived to 95" - yet everyone knows that smoking is bad for health.

A sample of one proves nothing.

I expect they would've been entitled to insist upon a refund after the supplier's initial failed attempt to fix the fault.

P and S have been run ragged by Hotpoint, 4 different engineers because "no refund, we can fix it".

Countless hours on the phone and writing letters until finally an engineer agrees with them. Months and months of no way to keep food fresh. And no money to buy a different machine and then get a refund from Hotpoint

If this was all within "reasonable" time after purchase (rather than an extended guarantee) they should mostly have been dealing with the retailer to assert their consumer rights. Their contract would usually be with the retailer, unless they purchased from Hotpoint directly. I'm glad they eventually got it sorted out, anyway.
