Forum purge?

Has there been a purge of threads on the forums?
I've recently searched for a couple of older threads (one started less than six months ago) and I couldn't find them. I've tried both browsing threads in the relevant section and using the forum search.

There has been, yes. This happened a few weeks ago when we were (and occasionally still are) on the receiving end of some malicious traffic. Due to the load on the database, this was causing the site to slow dramatically or even crash. There are still nearly 30,000 posts on the site, and I do have a backup of the "pruned" topics in case anything vital got removed
