No IMHO as it gets people who would not normally think about going in to come along. And who knows where that will lead.

Apparently it is the cathedral services that are growing the fastest. I prefer the non cathedral services but each to their own.

I loved the bit where you could lie on a mat and look up at the amazing roof bosses. I prefer to use the mirror though when there.

A step too far?: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-49292493 :wtf:
A helter skelter in a cathedral? Is the CofE diversifying into theme parks?

I'm a bit doubtful about the claim that it's about sharing "the story of the Bible". The Bible is a pretty big book, and has lots of stories, and I fail to see how a helter skelter connects with any of them. Sounds like marketing BS to me.

I think this is a great move. The church is doing something of benefit to the community, even if it is just providing a bit of entertainment. Some people avoid churches and religion because it's stuffy and looks down on you. This is a step to break down that perception.
Nice bonus that you get to see the architecture of the cathedral from a new angle. No matter what your views on the religion are, the buildings are often aesthetically pleasing to look at.

Norwich Cathedral is particularly beautiful, very much a feminine one. I think the idea is by climbing to the top you get to see some of the bosses which tell biblical stories in a way you cannot i any other way. i am not a Christian but did browse through the church magazine in a nearby library. The far from young head of the local clergy was writng about the "inclusive church". A married man he said he hopes that same sex marriage can happen in the Anglican church and felt that it was only the extremist evangelical wing that had been against it. Wonder if the critic is from that wing of the church.

Well a branch of McDonalds would get a lot of people to "come along" but it's hardly the place to have one in a church.

Are you a church going Anglican? Guess it is up to them and especially those in the diocese of Norwich whether or not it should have been allowed. As one of them I am in support of it.

What about the science thing they had in Ely Cathedral to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing? it included many non religious stuff including a gigantic model of the moon suspended in the cathedral. Would you have banned that as well?

Why not?

Is it not appropriate for the church to offer sustenance to the hungry and thirsty? Given fast food is generally cheaper than a sit-down restaurant, you could possibly argue it is a service to the poor too.

Yes they could also take down the cross and erect a big golden ""M" in it's place and instead of the scriptures readings could be given from the menu of Ronald... So many dedicated people across all religions may find this more inviting than the standard Christian Church environment...!
