Glad you agree the Bible has passages promoting slavery, Oh sorry we can't talk about that now!
I thought that pabenny was saying the opposite to that!
Well if he was he would be wrong - read the passage yourself...! Leviticus 25:44-46
No chance, I try not to discuss religion, It is all a load of mumbo jumbo.

Please get this right. We are discussing the removal of a book not a religion - it just so happens that this book happens to be one of the foundation stones of a religion.

No we are not. The Bible will never be removed from circulation.

You told me to go and read Leviticus a passage from the old testament. I simply said there was no chance I was going to do that as I considered religion to be a load of mumbo jumbo. Any way taking into account the subject started as discussing racism it now seem to have gone a tad off topic. So I will say I'm out.

I was indeed saying the opposite. I think you must have misread my post: I said that the passage instructs the Israelites on who they may not have as slaves (other Israelites) and who they may enslave (anyone else). The following verses refer Jubilee years and the redemption of slaves.

There are indeed many other references to slavery, but I don't recall any that promote it rather than merely acknowledging its existence. Do you?

Lets start with this which you obviously missed, so I will spell it out to you:

Leviticus 25:44-46 44 "Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly."

I read it, thank you. IF you'd read my post, you might have noticed that I've also read the next few verses.

No matter, the passage you have quoted says "you may...". Surely that is regulating or permitting slavery, not promoting it. If it's promoting slavery. Wilberforce and his fellow abolitionists, many of whom were devout Christians got it wrong.

I put the BBC news website on earlier. About 8 of the 20 news stories were condemning racism in various forms.

Little britain is racist, this statue is racist, this bulding needs to be renamned as its racist, a sugarbabe was traumatised because she was the only black member of the group, gone with the wind is taken off streaming as its racist. etc etc etc

Its not for me to say what other people feel or dont feel but for me this hysterical throat ramming of every little matter just makes me think the original point diluted and may make many switch off.

I don't, silly!!! You should really catch up (reading all the thread and not just the last few entries would help!)

But using the same criteria which some people are using, it would seemingly be justified! :wtf:
