BP has announced plans to cut 10,000 jobs amid following a global slump in demand for oil because of the coronavirus crisis.

The oil giant had paused redundancies during the peak of the pandemic but told staff on Monday that around 15% will leave by the end of the year.

BP has not said how many jobs will be lost in the UK but it is thought the figure could be close to 2,000

I think we'll see a lot of casualties in October when the furlough scheme ends.

If you and your little band of merry men stop all of this "report his posts" posse then I won't get banned from the forums.

I do not report just skim read the post in case it has something worth reading. If you did not behave like an annoying prat Richard would not get complaints and end up banning you.

I got a 5 min ban from the Rewards1 forum because one person was discussing how to address a problem with someone who had overcome it. I said "life can be a bitch at times". Next time I must remember to write "life can be a female dog at times"
Keep smiling because the light at the end of someone's tunnel may be you, Ron Cheneler

Centrica, the owner of British Gas, is to cut 5,000 jobs this year to "arrest the decline" of the company.

The company has been losing customers to rivals and, in February, blamed a big loss in 2019 on the energy price cap and falling gas prices.

Centrica also said the coronavirus crisis had shown how the company could be "agile and responsive".

New boss Chris O'Shea said the energy giant would strip out three layers of management to slim down the business.

About half of the jobs to go will be among the company's leadership, management and corporate staff. This will include half of the senior leadership team of 40 who will leave by the end of August.

Centrica currently has about 27,000 employees, with 20,000 of these based in the UK

Seismic cuts! I hope these cuts don't end up being from their customer services department as its already bad enough! Also hope they don't join that mass of companies where they are almost impossible to contact and when you do manage to contact them you get computer generated answers as if you are a peg that will fit accurately into some hole somewhere...!

That would be the end of them, you can't bounce back from that.

Ovo Energy to close offices and cut 2,600 jobs
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland- ... s-52714205
A major energy provider is to cut 2,600 jobs, claiming the lockdown has forced it to accelerate cost-cutting plans.

Ovo Energy bought SSE's retail division four months ago, making it Britain's second biggest supplier of domestic gas and electricity.

It had intended to reduce staff as it automates customer service, but says that process is being brought forward.

Ovo will close its operations in central Glasgow's Waterloo Street, Selkirk and Reading.

Jobs are also expected to go at offices in Perth, Cumbernauld and Cardiff.

SSE plc will continue to operate from the Waterloo Street and Reading offices.
