Isn't it "I was in Tesco cornering the market in toilet rolls, but I couldn't get the trolley down the bleedin guile"? :eh:

I was told by an intelligent friend that he was told a man put all the loo rolls in his trolley and then sold them at £20 a time to other customers. And some actually bought them.

Yes, possibly a true story but one I will not be repeating as I am doubtful if there is so much as a grain of truth there. But my friend believed it.

Like a far, far more intelligent friend believed so many unbelievable stories. The worst one was a man who turned up at the place where she was working to help others get a job (1999). He sailed in on his boat and could not get a job that involved driving as he could not get a driving licence. He was born and raised in the Republic but was from a Protestant Irish family so joined the British Army. So far so true. But the lie was he worked undercover infiltrating the IRA and so had to keep his identity a secret, Told us the same lie the first time we met him.

Yes, he tells strangers that the IRA are looking for him. My late Father in Law was in a top secret group in the war, it was disbanded but another group became the SAS. He hardly ever said what he was trained to do or actually did in WW2. He was sworn to secrecy and kept quiet even when he could have said more.

Sad to say my friend married him after living together for a number of years. And she is still so gullible that she believes him. We tried to drop the odd hint about how he was a control freak like her Dad who she hated for the way he treated her Mum. She never took the hint but repeated them to him and we were banned from her house within months of him moving in.

You do not have to be a thickie to be gullible, the low intelligent people would probably have realised they were being lied to but not my two intelligent friends
Keep smiling because the light at the end of someone's tunnel may be you, Ron Cheneler

I think you would enjoy the frequent, and equally germane, Word of the Day tweets from Susie Dent. https://twitter.com/susie_dent

Perhaps I would, But I do not use Any social media including twitter,(unless you want to call this forum social media) so am unlikely to see them.

I had a close encounter with a femme fatale and I must say she was worth it.
