Am I too reliant on the Internet?

Post by AAAlphaThunder » Thu Dec 06, 2018 5:25 pm

So my Tesco Data SIM stops working. No internet and no idea why. Call centre has 60 minute queue. So I was thinking to myself "Am I too reliant on the internet?"

I'm seriously considering lowering my internet usage in 2019?

PS: The cause was O2 technical problems.

Answer: Check Google...... ;)
Just because I'm paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get me

phone a friend ;)

actually ,as AAA said ,it's because Tesco ( and Giff Gaff) use the O2 network which is having problems https://www.independent.co.uk/life-styl ... 69666.html

If you mean shopping, banking, accessing government services, finding information, watching movies, listening to music.... that's increasingly the main way (in some cases the only way) of doing these things.

It does raise the question of the resilience if parts of the internet are unavailable. Autonomous vehicles (not that we have any yet) relying on O2 would be stranded. Universal Credit is almost exclusively operated online and has punitive sanctions for claimants who (for any reason) fail to meet their obligations. I doubt the DWP will be sympathetic towards claimants who couldn't access their online account.

I lived poverty and thankfully to all that is good, money-wise I'm doing OK today. However, from the people who I've spoken to far from being "sympathetic" DWP are almost looking for an excuse to sanction claimants. How true this is I don't know personally but that what people who are on Universal Credit are telling me.
