Re: Brexit

Post by blythburgh » Wed Oct 02 2019 9:30am

I know Brexit has not happened yet but the consequences are already being felt:

the value of the pound has collapsed leading to stuff in the shops rising in price

people feel they have the right to abuse anyone they feel was not born here no matter if they were or not or what important job they do

families and friends have stopped speaking to each other because they feel differently about brexit

I dread to think what will happen in the years ahead

And I am sick of being told it is London and the intelligentsia who are the only ones anti brexit. The people I know who like me voted remain and want a people's vote are not rich, not London based and some of them are on benefit, the rest all have to plan their finances carefully so they can afford to live without going into debt. And to say it is only a small unrepresentative section of society who want to remain is another pro brexit lie But the spokespersons for the brexiteers are so good at twisting the truth and down right lies, led by liar in chief Dominic Cummings

The turkeys in Sunderland voted for Christmas. It's very hard to have much sympathy for them, especially as they still seem to be wedded to this madness after having had three years to actually be able to read a little about it.

In some ways, I wonder if the UK needs to have Brexit, just so it gets the kick in the nuts that it deserves and it can finally understand its place in the world.

I don't wan't it to happen and I'll continue to do everything I can to stop it, but if we end up leaving - especially without a deal - then I think the expensive and unnecessary lesson we will be taught - living life as a middle-sized economy, trading on nostalgia rather than current ability, outside the room when all of the biggest decisions are made, stuck at the beck and call of the US - will knock us off our pedestal and maybe then we can finally start working out who we want to be instead of boring everybody with self-important nonsense about who we are now, because of stuff that was achieved 75+ years ago.

Not everyone in Sunderland voted for Brexit, maybe the workers at Nissan voted remain. But whatever way they voted I can feel some sympathy for the workers and their families. And all those businesses and their workers who will be badly affected by any loss of jobs at the Nissan plant.

It's not their fault.

They were lied to, like everyone else.

The rich hard right wingers in control of papers like The Sun, Express, Mail, Telegraph and Times made sure they pushed anything that put the EU in a bad light. Twist things, make the comment of a single MEP that s/he would like something to happen seem as if the whole of the none British MEP's were in total agreement when they were not.

One reporter was too lazy too actually do the work and find out the facts so wrote a lot of lies in his column because he knew he was writing for a right wing audience. He got the sack in the end but still make it to 10 Downing Street.

Is it any wonder some people voted leave when they heard so much anti EU propoganda? Or they voted leave because the believed the the lie about the NHS on the Boris Bus? Or they voted leave "to telll Cameron they were not happy with what the Govt. were doing?"

That list is missing Honda and Thomas Cook; perhaps because it's already too late to save them. I've been in agreement with the mantra of "Contempt for the conmen. Compassion for the conned." however after 3 years it's becoming increasingly difficult to sympathise with anyone still wedded to the lies.

Seen on Facebook - another reason why we should leave the EU
Dear Secretary of State,

My friend, who is in farming at the moment, recently received a cheque for €3,000 from the European Union for not rearing pigs. I would now like to join the "not rearing pigs" business.

In your opinion, what is the best kind of farm not to rear pigs on, and which is the best breed of pigs not to rear? I want to be sure I approach this endeavour in keeping with all government policies, as dictated by the EU under the Common Agricultural Policy.

I would prefer not to rear bacon pigs, but if this is not the type you want not rearing, I will just as gladly not rear porkers. Are there any advantages in not rearing rare breeds such as Saddlebacks or Gloucester Old Spots, or are there too many people already not rearing these?

As I see it, the hardest part of this programme will be keeping an accurate record of how many pigs I haven't reared. Are there any Government or Local Authority courses on this?

My friend is very satisfied with this business. He has been rearing pigs for forty years or so, and the best he ever made on them was €1,422 in 2012. That is - until this year, when he received a cheque for not rearing any.

If I get €3,000 for not rearing 50 pigs, will I get €6,000 for not rearing 100? I plan to operate on a small scale at first, holding myself down to about 4,000 pigs not raised, which will mean about €240,000 for the first year. As I become more expert in not rearing pigs, I plan to be more ambitious, perhaps increasing to, say, 40,000 pigs not reared in my second year, for which I should expect about €2.4 million from your department. Incidentally, I wonder if I would be eligible to receive tradable carbon credits for all these pigs not producing harmful and polluting methane gases?

Another point: These pigs that I plan not to rear will not eat 2,000 tonnes of cereals. I understand that you also pay farmers for not growing crops. Will I qualify for payments for not growing cereals to not feed the pigs I don't rear?

I am also considering the "not milking cows" business, so please send any information you have on that too. Please could you also include the current Defra advice on set aside fields? Can this be done on an e-commerce basis with virtual fields (of which I seem to have several thousand hectares)?

In view of the above you will realise that I will be totally unemployed, and will therefore qualify for unemployment benefits.
