A levels in Sociology, Psychology and Economics so well placed to say this:

Stockpiling more than you need for a fortnight is downright selfish and unfair on the poorer who cannot afford to do so.

And it means basics will not be available for me to buy and put in either the food bank box or the hygiene box. (We have a group who collect soap, loo rolls, toothpaste, shampoo etc for the most needy in society).

Buy what you need and no more and there will be enough for us all.

And banning footie matches etc means the medicos who are normally at the matches can either be working on the usual day stuff or having a much needed rest.

Washing your hands and not touching the face more than necessary, carrying and using tissues will mean less people get colds, flu etc as well as Corona Virus. And at the moment it is colds that most people will be protected from. In time the CV will be more prevalent but at the moment it is colds that most of us will get

Boots are stopping the make up sessions in the larger shops. Bad news for A Thunder of this parish. Now he will just have to go out without make up on and so children beware in case you meet him and get frightened.

It depends - the alcohol can have an effect, but the problem is that a quick wipe won't help - the various ways to gauge 20 seconds make me cringe.... can't you count 1 and two and three to twenty, people? If necessary make it thirty, an extra bit woin't do any harm. Remember the tip from the Late, Late too - liquid soap for preference, because it cuts the risk of cross-infection.

Remember,

A) reduce the possible exposure to the virus by distancing

B) increase hygiene by hand-washing and not touching your face.

These might not stop you getting the virus in the long-run, but it will afford time for treatment to be more available and/or a weaker strain to etablish. Think of your neighbours - it's your civic duty not to make things worse.....

Again a difference between treatment of COVID-19 here and in Ireland. Last night's Late, Late Show on RTÉ was filmed with no adience and the first period was given over to a representative of the health service in a mock-up of a "typical houehold" walking through the various recommendations for self-isolation and then live interviews with the Clinical head of the health service, the operational head of the health service, a clinical statistician, a psychologist, a represrntative for educational services, a representative for the equivalent of "Age UK", etc. Real people with real jobs, not a politician among them.

The interviews were matter-of-fact and not shock-jock - with the continual theme of "We can beat this". Most things are directly comparable to the UK (except that Ireland has introduced more social distancing).
If you're concerned, it might be worth a look - check for RTÉ player on Google play, etc.

Another update - I've just had a delivery from Royal Mail - obviously following new guidlines. Postie knocked on the door, rather than use the bell or knocker, and left the parcel outside, standing back several feet.

It felt like something out of a film.........
