Why are the overpriced handwashes/hand sanistisers sold out? Surely soap, washing up liquid, shower gel etc has the same effect?

As previously posted, liquid soap is recommended, but all those you say will have their effect - and HOT water. People seem to be convinced a bit of disinfectant will do the job - IT WON'T!

Boots are stopping the make up sessions in the larger shops. Bad news for A Thunder of this parish. Now he will just have to go out without make up on and so children beware in case you meet him and get frightened.
The best you can do - I didn't even flinch.

Latest purchase limits placed on shops in UK, in light of the Coronavirus due to panic buying;

ASDA: 2 hand sanitisers and a 4 pack of toilet rolls.

TESCO: 1 hand sanitiser, 500g of rice and 4 pack of toilet rolls.

WAITROSE: 1 lobster, 6 quails eggs and 100g of Foie Gras.

ALDI: a MIG welder, a pink sports bra, 2 trumpets and a wetsuit.
LOL.

I'm hearing a lot about "herd immunity"...... :eh:

A couple of points

Firstly immunity is a likely, not a given - there have been reports of re-infection. More likely is that any subsequent infection will be less serious......
Secondly, you don't achieve "herd immunity" by letting the primary disease run rampant - you achieve it by innoculation or by controlled infection.

Imagine if they decided to promote "herd immunity" for smallpox by giving everyone smallpox!! :wtf:

One of the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures attempted to explain & demonstrate herd immunity at a level that children (or maybe even the Johnson government) could understand at the end of last year. It can be seen here on youtube - skip to 22 mins if you don't want to watch the whole episode:

Aldi are limiting shoppers to a maximum of 4 units of any item
Which is annoying because I need 5 ski masks and a dozen pink tents
