'im indoors cousin has been looking forward to their Golden Wedding Celebrations for months. Only 18 allowed so she has had to cut the guests down to cousins and spouses, neices and spouses plus her (and husband's) children/grandchildren.

No it looks as if the celebration will have to be cancelled. I am devasted for her, she is a lovely lady and her husband is getting more and more selfish and demanding. Poor man has glaucoma in one eye, wet eye macular degeneration in the other. His sight has got so bad he can not see the TV clearly any more. And to make things worse he has Parkinson's Disease and his condition is noticeably worse than at the start of the year. A friend said her once kind and caring husband went the same way as his Motor Neurone Disease worsened.
It sounds like your cousin-in-law(?) needs to check his eyesight, in which case it is allowed to break any of the Coronavirus restrictions. So long as you do this in a very specific and limited way, this government will uphold that it is perfectly acceptable.
He does not need to check his eyesight. He goes to the hospital monthly for injections in one eye and by monthly for an injection in the other. The mere thought makes me feel ill.

But his wife is always with him but Christmas has always been at a big get together at her daughter in law's so the rule of six is going to scupper that. The hostess already has 4 in her household so would have to say no to one set of parents let alone siblings etc

I am so happy to say that the Golden Wedding Celebrations will take place. They had to reduce it to 18 people. The hotel say if we sit at three tables and do not socialise with people at other tables it is within the law. So 18 people who know each other will behave as if they were at a restaurant and not go over to chat to people at other tables. But I bet there is a bit of shouting from one table to another at times.
And they lived happily ever after.

Shouting also singing is not allowed because of the amount of spittle that can be projected around.

I would imagine one of the sons will ask for quiet so the "speeches" can take place. Because I had measles as a child (pre vaccine days) if everyone it talking at once I will find it hard to hear people sitting opposite me so I will not be shouting at anyone in another table.

Measles might have meant I have monocular not binocular vision and a bit of a hearing problem but having met others who had measles I consider I got away with it very lightly.

You can see why the anti vaccine people get me so angry. And do not say get a hearing aid and the world will be OK as all it did when I used mine was make every voice louder so I still could not hear what someone across the table was saying due to level of noise from the others speaking around them.

Measles - thank goodness we have an effective vaccine.

Sadly the couple have realised that nobody who was not on the same table could talk to anybody else so has cancelled the celebrations until they can have one where people can mingle. But the whole year is their golden wedding one so hopefully we can get back to a bit more like it used to be

A good call. It's just doesn't feel right not being able to mingle, mix freely and strike up a conversation with anyone you like.
