I get this/similar message about once a month
It's not a scam, as in it is actually from Paypal but when I click though, it always says 'Something went wrong; and I never get the money

I logged into my Paypal a/c and nothing in message centre, clicked on link in email whilst still logged in ( email address seemed genuine ) and £3 was immediately credited to my Paypal a/c .

Yes, I just got the same message and was wondering whether it was legit as I access my paypal account regularly. Will check my secure messaging in paypal as you suggest RF
