Speculation this morning on the today programme is that Owen Patterson will be offered a peerage by Boris Johnson. Would he be so daft?
He was daft enough to think letting Paterson off would be acceptable.
He was daft enough to think we'd not notice him hiding in a fridge.
He was daft enough to think "let the bodies pile high" was a good policy.
He was daft enough to call burka wearers "letterboxes".
He was daft enough to lie about how much money we paid into the EU.
He was daft enough to think covid isolation rules didn't apply to him, despite having been hospitalised with it previously.
He was daft enough to throw ridiculous amounts of money at a test and trace system that didn't work.
He was daft enough to pay his mates to make PPE when they patently had no ability to do so.
He was daft enough to think he could have neither a border in the North Sea, nor a border on the island of Ireland.

So, yes, he'd be daft enough to reward someone for political corruption.
And the great public are clever enough to let him and his mates rule over us.
Well done us

Come the next election I suspect the gullible British public will still vote for the clowns. The election is not for 2-3 years yet and Rishi has already started to build the war chest for the great big giveaway just before they go to the polls.

Sadly Richard unless there's an internal grey suits rebellion, I fully concur.

Apparently even Johnson has listened to other MP's and decided not to offer a peerage , well not yet anyway

"not yet" being the important phrase here.

Paterson was one of the Brexit movers and shakers behind the scenes. He's one of the founders of the leave campaign. He wasn't public facing, but his did a lot of persuasion amongst Conservative ministers, rallying them firstly to force Cameron into holding the referendum, and then into backing a hard Brexit.

Paterson has surely been promised a reward and there are doubtless some skeletons in the cupboard that he knows about and Boris will be keen to avoid another Cummings debacle of revelations (even though he seems to have weathered that). So, yes at some point when we're not looking, Paterson will get a figurative wadge of cash in a brown envelope.

What difference does it make to the country?

Labour lent the Lib dems their vote. This seat at a general election will very likely revert back to the Clown Troupe, having said that, I acknowledge that it is a massive victory, a bloody nose. A warning, a shot across the bows and that it might help in the demise of the chief charlatan.
