The iconic photographer, Mick Rock, known as "The Man Who Shot the Seventies" has died at the age of 72. If you don't think you know who he was, then look at these and think again....
He was Bowie's official photographer, capturing the Ziggy Stardust era, but also produced well known phtographs of Queen, T. Rex, Syd Barrett, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Joan Jett, Talking Heads, Roxy Music, Thin Lizzy, Geordie, Mötley Crüe, and Blondie.
When I was producing shots to help a friend get his break into the music industry, I unashamedly nicked many of Rock's techniques. The interesting thing is that everyone thought he had a made-up name - yet he really was born Michael David Rock in Hammersmith. Like me, he worked his photography through his time at Uni, but, unlike me, he was successful at it!
