Gmail problem

Post by Oggy » Sat Dec 04 2021 11:30am

I have Gmail on my Galaxy S20 using the Gmail app and also on my laptop using Outlook. My problem is that when I delete an email on one device it is also deleted on the other. I don't want this to happen. How do I fix it? Thanks.

I do not know the answer specifically. But surely when you delete an email it is deleted from the server, so disappears on all devices. My partner who has a smartphone, ( I don't) on his mobile swipes sideways to hide on the phone and it stays on the email client on the computer.

I don't think you can. That's the point of how it works - wherever you log in it is current and up to date (internet connection dependent).

You might be able to hide messages on a device as Richard Frost describes. Otherwise, you would need to set up two separate email addresses to keep the two devices different.

AFAIK, the only way you could prevent this is by using an email agglomerater like Mozilla Thunderbird. This can be used to make a local copy of emails on any system.... so you are not dependent on access to the mail server once the email has been downloaded.

Just because I'm paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get me
