generally looking at Building Societies, but open to other ideas.
I’ve opened the Yorkshire and Leeds accounts today.

i'm stashing money with YBS at 2.9% and CBS at 2.85% now, but will keep an eye on the market.
if i could rewind i'd have bagged the 3.25% available from CBS, but i thought better rates may appear across the market.

In what way? I've opened and closed accounts without difficulty, successfully transferred an ISA in & out and sent them online messages that received prompt responses. They're happy to change an easy access account issue upon request without any fuss (the latest being issue 33 although I think they also increased issue 32 to the same interest rates anyway). The maximum balance £85,000 per customer is relatively low and perhaps restrictive for some savers. I'd recommend keeping some funds elsewhere if you need same day (faster payments) access to it, since Shawbrook don't offer that.

My experience of Shawbrook is similar to Sarah's. They're not as quick as some of the newest app-based banks such as Chase but no complaints.

Thanks for the replies. I am not looking for an app based account so it´s good to hear your positive comments. Do you know if they do all the account opening online or if they send passwords, id etc by post (as I am sometimes away from home for several weeks at a time, so there would be no point in me applying if my application was delayed because they were waiting for me to return something by post).

not sure how, but it looks as though i got that wrong, and that that rate applies to their 60 day notice account.
