How do provisional claims work?

We normally ask you to allow at least 14 days for a reward to appear on your statement before you submit a claim for a missing transaction. However, you can submit a claim "early" and we will treat this as a provisional claim. You can complete some or all of the details and then later, if the transaction still does not appear within the expected timescale, you will have the option to submit this claim using the details you provided earlier.

The advantage of submitting a provisional claim is that it can act as a reminder that you are expecting a transaction to appear; this has the added benefit that you can provide the claim details while they are fresh in your mind. i.e. you can submit a provisional claim immediately after completing your transaction.

Note: if the transaction does not automatically appear, you will have to return to your provisional claim and submit it within the normal timescales (usually within six weeks of the transaction date). If you do nothing with a provisional claim within a certain time period, we will change its status to Cancelled.
